High school girls' basketball: Gaines, Lady Hornets race past Eldon 51-38

ELDON - Fulton junior guard Kayanna Gaines came through with a game-high 25 points to spur the Lady Hornets to a 51-38 triumph over the Eldon Lady Mustangs on Tuesday night.

The win was the second in a row for Fulton (6-15), which was in front 12-7 after one quarter. The Lady Hornets then outscored Eldon 16-5 in the second quarter to stretch their advantage to 28-12 at halftime.

Fulton outscored the Lady Mustangs 14-8 in the third quarter to open up a 42-20 lead.

Sophomore guard Kiah Pittman added 11 points for the Lady Hornets and junior guard Carly Fisher contributed nine.

"We jumped out on them from the tip," Fulton head coach Dillan Brunk said. "We played like a team and had really good ball movement in our half-court offense.

"Defensively, we were aggressive and flying around, causing turnovers and making them go one-on-one."

Haley Henderson paced Eldon with 16 points and Kayleigh Fike followed with 14.

The Lady Hornets lost the junior varsity game 22-11. Sophomore guard Kyela Macon scored five points and freshman forward Alexis Raebel had four.

Fulton hosts Hannibal in a North Central Missouri Conference contest at 6 p.m. Friday at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium. The Lady Hornets (1-6 NCMC) will seek to avenge a 54-37 loss at Hannibal on Jan. 27.
