High school girls' basketball: Centralia 61, New Bloomfield 47

CENTRALIA - The Lady Wildcats were outscored by a combined 28-13 in the second and third quarters of Monday night's loss to the Lady Panthers.

New Bloomfield (7-15) was only down 19-13 after one quarter, but Centralia outscored the Lady Wildcats 15-5 in the second quarter to build a 34-18 lead at halftime. The Lady Panthers edged New Bloomfield 13-9 in the third quarter to stretch their advantage to 47-27.

Sophomore guard Jenna Nichols paced the Lady Wildcats with 14 points and sophomore guard Asya Nichols had 10.

"We struggled to play a full game again," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "For us to be successful, we have to play with maximum effort for the whole game, not just the fourth quarter.

"I thought we moved the ball well on offense, but we had some trouble finishing around the basket."

Mary Bennett sparked Centralia with a game-high 20 points.

New Bloomfield hosts Linn in a Show-Me Conference game at 6 tonight.
