High school boys' basketball: Fulton 67, Boonville 64

Senior forward John Adams knocked down a dramatic 3-pointer as time expired to lift the Hornets to the stunning victory over the Pirates in overtime Monday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Fulton (12-9) - which has won seven of its last eight - trailed 13-8 after one quarter and was down 25-21 at halftime. The contest was tied at 41-all after three quarters and the Hornets wiped out a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter behind a 10-0 run to take a late lead.

Fulton ultimately forced overtime when freshman guard Courtland Simmons scored on a putback with 33 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 56-all.

The Hornets went up by four points with 1:30 to go in the extra period on a steal and layup by junior guard AJ Henderson. Boonville, though, pulled even at 64-all on a trey with :30 remaining.

Fulton worked the clock down on its ensuing possession and junior forward Seth Sayler fed a pass to Adams, who lofted in the decisive 3 from in front of the Hornets' bench as the buzzer sounded.

"It couldn't have happened to a better kid," Fulton head coach Justin Gilmore said. "John Adams is everything you want in a senior leader and I'm so happy for him and this moment."

Simmons topped the Hornets with a game-high 24 points and Sayler supplied 10.

"All of our guys were great," Gilmore said. "We got huge contributions from so many guys. It's a different guy every night for us. I could name the guys that gave big contributions for us, but I'd be naming everyone on the team.

"These dudes are a complete team and embody what it means to be a team. They have embraced their roles and just go out and play basketball every night. I'm proud of the work they've put in this year and they all deserve this one."

Luke Green guided Boonville (17-5) with 20 points.

Fulton rolled to a 53-24 triumph in the junior varsity game. Freshman forward Colby Lancaster finished with 14 points and sophomore forward Ian Poore added 10.
