Hornets sending five wrestlers to Class 2 state championships

MEXICO - Fulton senior Jackson Caswell, junior Sam Hrabovsky and sophomores Owen Uhls and Josh Dunmire qualified for this week's state wrestling championships by capturing titles in their respective weight classes Saturday at the Class 2 District 2 Tournament.

Caswell prevailed at 120 pounds, Hrabovsky triumphed at 132, Uhls was victorious at 113 and Dunmire won at 285 as Fulton finished sixth as a team with 132 points. Junior Eston Dews also advanced to state for the Hornets by taking second at 138 pounds.

Caswell (44-1) posted a 5-1 decision against Mexico's Ricardo Juarez for the championship at 120. He reached the title match by pinning Wright City's David Rice in 1:49 in the semifinals.

A four-time state qualifier, Caswell took third at 113 last year and was third at 106 in 2018.

Hrabovsky (30-2) downed Blair Oaks' Caleb Meeks with a 9-1 major decision in the title match at 132. He pinned St. Charles West's Cole Gramling in 1:14 in the semifinals.

Hrabovsky, a three-time state qualifier, came in second at 120 last year. He made a perfect run to a state championship at 113 in 2018.

Uhls (37-3) scored a pin of St. Francis Borgia's Joseph Lause in 1:09 for the championship at 113. He also pinned St. Charles West's Morgan Oser in :54 in the semifinals.

Uhls will be returning to the state championships for a second straight year. He won a state title at 106 in 2019.

Dunmire (32-14) pinned Blair Oaks' Shane Gillmore in 5:15 in the title match at 285. He recorded a pin against Moberly's Andrew Huff in 2:52 in the semifinals.

Dunmire will be making his first trip to the state championships.

Dews (22-16) lost a 9-5 decision to Moberly's Zach Lewis for the championship at 138. He defeated Kirksville's Logan Blickhan in a 6-4 decision in the semifinals.

Dews is a two-time state qualifier.

First-round matches at the Class 2 state championships start at 9 a.m. Thursday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Fulton tied for sixth place in Class 2 last year.
