High school boys' basketball: North Callaway 66, Silex 36

KINGDOM CITY - Senior guard Gabe Cash connected for a game-high 19 points and handed out five assists in his last home game as the surging Thunderbirds blitzed the Owls in an Eastern Missouri Conference romp Friday night.

The victory was the sixth in a row for North Callaway, which improved to 12-9 overall and 5-2 in the EMO.

The contest was tied at 12-all after one quarter, but the Thunderbirds took control by outscoring Silex 21-5 in the second quarter to build a 33-17 lead at halftime. North Callaway owned a 47-27 advantage to start the fourth quarter and pulled away by outscoring the Owls 19-9 over the last 8 minutes.

Senior forward Tanner Taylor provided 13 points for the Thunderbirds and junior forward Noah Scrogum grabbed eight rebounds.

"It was all about the seniors - all five started and all five played really well," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "Next year we'll really miss them."

Brian Henke directed Silex (2-17, 1-6) with 16 points and Justin Havlik chipped in with 10.

The Thunderbirds (9-5) won the junior varsity contest 19-9 in two quarters. Freshman guard Matthew Weber scored seven points.

North Callaway goes to Mark Twain for an EMO matchup at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
