High school girls' basketball: North Callaway 45, Wright City 41

KINGDOM CITY - Junior forward Makenna Allen posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Ladybirds fended off the Lady Wildcats in an Eastern Missouri Conference victory Monday night.

North Callaway (4-14, 2-4 EMO) was on top 11-7 after one quarter and outscored Wright City 14-5 in the second quarter to widen its lead to 25-12 at halftime. The Ladybirds extended that advantage to 31-16 in the third quarter before the Lady Wildcats closed the period with a 10-2 run to pull within 33-26.

North Callaway secured the win despite being outscored by Wright City 15-12 in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Daelyn Schmauch supplied 12 points, nine rebounds and six steals for the Ladybirds. Junior guard Hayley Kimbley contributed 10 points and three assists.

"This was a good team win," North Callaway head coach Morgan Beamer said. "Defensively, we started out really strong in the first half and then we had to hold on in the final few minutes."

Jasmin Simpson and Kelsey Capstick shared game scoring honors with 18 points apiece for Wright City (7-13, 2-6).

The Ladybirds (0-7) lost the junior varsity game 22-21 in two quarters. Sophomore guard Piper Jeffries finished with nine points.

North Callaway traveled to Louisiana for an EMO contest Tuesday night. Results were not available at press time.
