High school girls' basketball: Fatima 65, New Bloomfield 45

WESTPHALIA - The Lady Wildcats tumbled to 0-5 in the Show-Me Conference after being outscored by the Lady Comets 31-14 in the second half of Friday night's loss.

New Bloomfield (6-13) was in front 17-12 after one quarter, but Fatima outscored the Lady Wildcats 22-14 in the second quarter to go in front 34-31 at halftime. The Lady Comets then took control by outscoring New Bloomfield 17-6 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 51-37.

Sophomore forward Ellie Emerson topped the Lady Wildcats with 16 points and sophomore guard Asya Nichols chipped in with 12.

"In the first half we were able to get some shots to go down, but in the second half they didn't fall," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "We're getting in foul trouble and that's hurting us on offense, then we have to play different people in different spots.

"If we can get four consistent quarters, I think we'll be OK, but we haven't gotten that yet."

Lauren Brandt logged a game-high 21 points to guide three players in double figures for Fatima. Karli Struemph added 12 points and Danielle Stegeman was next with 10.

The Lady Wildcats (3-5) bowed in the junior varsity game 35-30. Freshman guards Brinley Dysart and Avery Nichols supplied 13 and nine points, respectively.

New Bloomfield travels to Fayette at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
