High school boys' basketball: Oklahoma School for Deaf 72, Missouri School for Deaf 66

SULPHUR, Okla. - The third-seeded Eagles were outscored 26-20 in the fourth quarter and fell to the No. 2 Indians in the semifinals of the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf Tournament on Friday night.

MSD - which has lost two of three meetings with OSD this season - slipped to 8-8 on the season. The Eagles were down 17-11 after one quarter Friday night, but edged the Indians 18-16 in the second quarter to close within 33-29 at halftime.

MSD continued to rally in the third quarter, outscoring OSD 17-13 to tie the game at 46-all.

Senior center Mikal Meriwether paced the Eagles with a game-high 28 points and pulled down six rebounds. Junior guard Jayden Riordan supplied 23 points and four assists.

Jordan Scism directed the Indians with 21 points. Isaiah Holt and KJ Lokeijak added 13 points apiece.

MSD opened tournament play Thursday with a 62-21 first-round blitz of No. 6 seed Kansas School for the Deaf. The Eagles were in charge from the outset, building a 20-7 advantage after one quarter and marching into halftime with a decisive 44-8 lead.

Riordan sparked MSD with a game-high 27 points and five assists. Meriwether accounted for 21 points and eight rebounds.

Quendavis Reese scored eight points for KSD.

The Eagles faced No. 5 seed Iowa School for the Deaf for third place Saturday night. Results were not available at press time.
