High school softball: Wright City 10, North Callaway 0

WRIGHT CITY - The Ladybirds were limited to just three hits in suffering their first loss of the season to the Lady Wildcats in six innings in Tuesday night's Eastern Missouri Conference matchup.

North Callaway slipped to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the EMO.

Wright City (4-0, 2-0) put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, then tacked on three runs apiece in the second and third to build an 8-0 lead. The Lady Wildcats added one run each in the fifth and sixth to end the game on the mercy rule.

Senior shortstop Ellie Eckert and junior third baseman Mikayla Pennell both singled in the third and junior catcher Haley Garrett led off the fourth with a single to account for the Ladybirds' hits.

North Callaway junior pitcher Hayley Kimbley went the distance in taking the loss. Kimbley surrendered 10 runs - five earned - on 17 hits and struck out three.

"Wright City is a really good Class 3 ball club and they already have two commanding wins over quality Class 3 schools," Ladybirds head coach Mariah McKee said. "They have a really good pitcher and they hit the ball really hard."

North Callaway hosts Rock Bridge at 5 p.m. today.
