Prep Softball: North Callaway goes 0-2 at Centralia Tournament

CENTRALIA - The No. 5 seed North Callaway Ladybirds were eliminated at the Centralia Tournament after an 11-9 loss to No. 1 Putnam County in eight innings in the consolation semifinals Saturday.

Putnam County scored a run in the sixth to tie the game at 8 and force extra innings. The Lady Midgets then tallied three runs in the eighth to prevail.

Sophomore left fielder Mackenzie Eaker went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run as North Callaway (9-12) accumulated 15 hits. Sophomore second baseman Ryelle Schmauch also finished 2-for-4 with a solo homer and scored two runs, while junior catcher Haley Garrett was 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Junior pitcher Hayley Kimbley took the complete-game loss for the Ladybirds, allowing 11 runs - 10 earned - on 13 hits. Kimbley (7-9) struck out four and walked two.

North Callaway opened tournament play Saturday with a 16-1 loss to No. 4 seed Trenton in four innings.

The Ladybirds host Mark Twain in an Eastern Missouri Conference game at 5 p.m. today.
