Track and field: South Callaway boys take third at Class 2 District 3 meet

MOKANE - The South Callaway Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs combined to win eight events Saturday at the Class 2 District 3 meet at South Callaway High School.

The South Callaway boys took third place as a team with 96 points. Fayette won the district title with 123 points, while Hermann was second with 116 points.

The South Callaway girls finished fifth with 78 points, just 1.5 points back of third place. Hermann won the district championship with 131.5 points and Cole Camp was second with 115.

Six of South Callaway's first-place finishes came from six different individuals in the field events.

South Callaway swept the titles in both the pole vault and the javelin. For the boys, Wyatt Hager won the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, and Nick Mealy won the javelin with a throw of 163-1. For the girls, DeLaney Horstman took the title in the pole vault at 9-0, while Raeghan Meyer threw 104-2 to win the javelin.

Hayden Vaught also won the boys high jump, clearing 6-1, while Raegan Brown took the title in the girls long jump with a leap of 16-5, winning by a quarter of an inch.

South Callaway also swept the titles on the track in the 4x100-meter relays.

For the girls, Adah Siegel, Hailee Potter, Brown and Paige Clubb finished first in a time of 52.99 seconds, while the boys team of Devin Borghardt, Hunter Martin Hay, Vaught and Noah Reece crossed the finish line in 45.21 seconds.

The South Callaway girls also qualified for sectionals in three other events. Meyer finished runner-up to Horstman in the pole vault, clearing 8-6, while Siegel placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.47 seconds. Brown will compete in sectionals in three events after placing third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.52 seconds.

The top-four finishers in each event at districts will compete in the Class 2 Sectional 2 meet, which South Callaway will also host this Saturday.

For the South Callaway boys, Jasper Rees qualified for sectionals in two throwing events. He placed second in the discus with a toss of 125-0, then finished third in the shot put with a throw of 40-1.

Hager took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.93 seconds, while Brendon Mealy finished fourth in the pole vault at 11-0 for the Bulldogs.

In addition to the 4x100, the South Callaway boys moved on to sectionals in both the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays.

Holden Adams, Martin Hay, Vaught and Reece clocked a second-place time of 1:35.20 in the 4x200, while Vaught, Daniel McDonald, Martin Hay and Reece finished third in the 4x400 in 3:40.28.
