Girls' basketball: Montgomery County 62, New Bloomfield 54

MOKANE - No. 5 seed New Bloomfield couldn't finish a fourth-quarter rally in falling to No. 6 Montgomery County in a duel between Lady Wildcats for fifth place at the South Callaway Invitational Tournament on Thursday night.

New Bloomfield (8-7) trailed 21-15 after one quarter and 33-26 at halftime. New Bloomfield was down 46-36 after three quarters and couldn't surpass Montgomery County despite outscoring it 18-16 over the last 8 minutes.

Senior center Samantha Haas produced a game-high 18 points to spark three players in double figures for New Bloomfield. Freshman guard Ellie Emerson logged 12 points and senior forward Katie Kelley had 10.

"We played hard and made a run late, but didn't hit enough shots to complete the comeback," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "Their quickness gave us trouble defensively."

Hannah Prior countered with 16 points to guide three players in double figures for Montgomery County. Renee Finke supplied 13 points and Paige Oden finished with 10.

New Bloomfield is scheduled to play at Show-Me Conference foe Russellville at 6 p.m. Monday.
