Winter weather delays district basketball tournaments

Winter weather continued to cause scheduling issues Tuesday, this time affect postseason high school basketball.

Games from three area district tournaments were postponed, leading to changes in the schedule for the remainder of the week due to Tuesday night's snow.

The North Callaway and South Callaway boys basketball teams had their first-round games in the Class 3 District 9 Tournament at Linn pushed back to today.

South Callaway (12-13), the No. 6 seed, will play third-seeded Southern Boone at 7 p.m. North Callaway (19-6), the No. 4 seed, is scheduled to play fifth-seeded California at 8:30 p.m.

The district semifinal games were also pushed back a day, as the girls doubleheader begins at 6 p.m. Thursday and the boys doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. Friday. The fourth-seeded South Callaway girls (19-6) will play top-seeded California at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The championship games are still scheduled for Saturday, with the girls game at 1 p.m. and the boys game at 3 p.m.

The New Bloomfield boys basketball team had its first-round game in the Class 2 District 7 Tournament at Sturgeon pushed back one day as well.

New Bloomfield (7-16), the No. 6 seed, will play third-seeded Westran at 9 p.m. today at Sturgeon High School.

The girls semifinal games will take place Thursday night and the boys semifinal game are Friday. The girls championship game was also pushed back to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, following the boys title game at 1 p.m.

Games in the Class 1 District 9 Tournament at Pilot Grove were also disrupted Tuesday by the weather.

Missouri School for the Deaf (6-11), the No. 8 seed, will play top-seeded Chamois at 4:30 p.m. today to begin the boys first-round action.

The girls semifinal doubleheader in that district will be Thursday and the boys semifinal games will take place Friday. The girls championship game was also pushed back a day to Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. The boys title game is slated for 4 p.m.

The Fulton Hornets and Lady Hornets were able to play their North Central Missouri Conference varsity doubleheader Tuesday night against Moberly at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

The Lady Hornets dropped a 55-38 decision in the first game, while the Hornets made it a split with a 47-44 win against the Spartans.
