High school girls' basketball: South Callaway 77, Van-Far 28

VANDALIA - All five starters reached double figures as the state-ranked Lady Bulldogs launched their season by blowing past the Lady Indians on Tuesday night.

South Callaway - which finished 22-7 last season and reached the Class 3 quarterfinals - is ranked seventh in the preseason state poll released by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.

The Lady Bulldogs tormented Van-Far from the outset Tuesday night, racing to a 29-2 lead after one quarter and rolling into halftime with a commanding 59-8 advantage.

Sophomore guard Raegan Brown topped South Callaway with a game-high 18 points, followed by junior guard Paige Clubb with 15. Senior forward Raeghan Meyer and junior center DeLaney Horstman tallied 14 points apiece and sophomore forward Hailee Potter had 10.

"I told the girls that we needed to start really fast, and that's exactly what we did - I was thrilled with the way we came out," Lady Bulldogs head coach Darren Humphrey said. "Defensively, we forced a lot of turnovers and exerted a lot of pressure.

"We converted off defense really well."

Aubrey Bunge led Van-Far with 11 points.

South Callaway plays its home opener against Montgomery County at 6 p.m. Monday.
