William Woods men fall in conference soccer opener

The William Woods men opened their American Midwest Conference schedule Saturday at home against Harris-Stowe State.

The Owls lost 2-1 in a game that saw them being outshot 18-5 and 10-5 with those on goal.

Both teams would play to a scoreless tie in the first half, despite William Woods (2-5) having three opportunities to score.

The game would see an uptick of scoring, starting in the 51st minute when Harris-Stowe State took the lead only for Michael Bhat to tie the game on an assist from goalkeeper Iker Gonzalez. About four minutes later, the Hornets would take the lead for good.

Gonzalez made seven saves while Guillermo Fernandez led the Owls with three shots.

William Woods will host No. 4 Columbia College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
