William Woods loses three for second time

William Woods hadn't lost in straight sets this season until Saturday at Saint Mary. The team has now been swept twice in two straight matches after losing in three Tuesday at Evangel (20-25, 21-25, 15-25).

The Owls were outhit as they had a .121 hitting percentage as opposed to Evangel's .317 and had nine more errors.

The scores became more even in the first set after kills by Hannah Kuehl and Lanie Lowry, and William Woods would pull within one at 18-17 after a Kassidy Phillips kill. The Owls just couldn't overtake Evangel to drop the first set.

The second set was more even from the start as the teams would alternate wins on the first eight points, but William Woods would allow Evangel a small advantage after losing two straight points a couple times. A 4-0 Evangel run to make it 22-17 cemented the two-set lead.

The Owls would take a one-point advantage a couple of times early in the second set after kills by Lowry and Lauren Adams, but Evangel would go on another 4-0 run to take the lead at 8-5 and then pull away after an 8-0 run to make it 23-13 on the way to a sweep. Evangel's Tori Lowry had four of her game-leading 14 kills in the final set.

The player with the next-highest kills was William Woods leader Kuehl with 11. Tori Rosemann and Tess Schannuth each led all players with 18 digs and 24 assists, respectively.
