Westminster women score first goal, lose 3-1 to Fontbonne

Westminster was quiet offensively while Fontbonne was relentless Tuesday as the Blue Jays lost 3-1.

The deficit could have been worse if not for Westminster goalkeeper Megan Davidson, who stopped 14 of 17 shots on goal. The Blue Jays had three shots for the whole game while Fontbonne recorded 36, with 26 of them happening in the second half.

Every goal in the game would be scored in the second half as Davidson was able to stop the first one but couldn't turn away the second in the 48th minute. Three shots on goal and 10 minutes later, Fontbonne took a 2-0 lead. Davidson would then make back-to-back saves within a minute of each other in the 59th minute before doing so once again in the 64th minute, but Fontbonne hit the back of the next for the third time in the 67th minute.

The Blue Jays would avoid being shutout for the fourth straight game and score their first goal of the season in the 87th minute when Abbey Montana did so on a free kick.

Westminster will now search for its first win at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at home against Principia.
