Westminster men 2-0 against SLIAC after 4-3 win at Fontbonne

The Blue Jays were able to respond promptly Tuesday against Fontbonne and won 4-3, making them 2-0 in their first two SLIAC games.

Fontbonne was able to score first in both halves, but it only took a few minutes each time for Westminster (2-3-1) to answer with its own goal.

Fontbonne scored the first goal in the 12th minute, three minutes before Freddy Nene scored one for the Blue Jays off assists from Bukuru Dieudone and recent SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Barrett Smith. Westminster would take its first lead in the 23rd minute off a penalty kick from Mustekbel Shoune.

About eight minutes after halftime, Fontbonne would strike first in the second half on a loose ball in the box. Westminster would make up for that error two minutes later with a goal by Niklas Olsson off assists from Nolan Deane and Collin Murray.

In the 79th minute, the offensive player of the week would show some skills as Smith would score unassisted on a shot from 30 yards out. Fontbonne would score its own unassisted goal on a free kick in the 86th minute, but Smith would have his second straight game with a game-winning goal.

Westminster will look to stay undefeated in conference at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at home against Principia.
