Men's Soccer: Westminster beats Greenville 4-2

The Blue Jays scored more goals in the first half than they've had in a single game this season to defeat Greenville 4-2 on Saturday in their first SLIAC game this season.

Westminster (1-3-1) scored three first half goals and held on for the victory despite 17 Panther shots in the game and 13 in the second half.

Niklas Olsson scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute off an assist by Bukuru Dieudone. Greenville tied it 10 minutes later before Barrett Smith scored two unassisted goals two minutes apart. The second one came on a penalty kick in the 31st minute.

In the second half, Nolan Deane added some insurance early in the 45th minute with goal off a Freddy Nene assist. The Panthers kept attacking Conner Benefield in goal but only broke through in the 89th minute. Benefield made seven saves on the nine shots on goal that came his way in 90 minutes.

Westminster will go back on the road to face another conference rival in Fontbonne at 6 p.m. today.
