Men's Soccer: Owls hold off early attack, win 1-0 at Iowa Wesleyan

Iowa Wesleyan almost doubled William Woods in shots at 27-14, but the Owls won 1-0 to secure their second straight win.

Ben Faherty had to make three saves in about the first 20 minutes of the game, and William Woods (2-4) had to hold ward off a 16-4 shot advantage by Iowa Wesleyan before the Owls could answer with some offense in the second half.

Michael Bhat had the game's only goal in the 67th minute off an assist by Logan Barger.

The first shot on goal happened in the 7th minute and then the 11th and 20th minutes as Faherty made three of his 10 saves.

The shots evened out in the second half, still in favor of Iowa Wesleyan, at 11-10. Faherty had two saves in the final four minutes to clinch the victory.

Nicholas Martinez led the William Woods attack with two shots on goal while nine other Owls had at least one. Iowa Wesleyan's Xavier Lozada was turned away five times.

William Woods will kick off its conference schedule at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Firley Field against Harris-Stowe State.
