William Woods women dominate Saint Mary 3-0

William Woods not only shut out Saint Mary in goals but also in shots.

Saint Mary didn't record a single shot or shot on goal in all 90 minutes of the Owls' 3-0 win on Tuesday.

William Woods (5-2-1) attacked Saint Mary early and often, with 23 shots and 14 shots on goal, when Lauren Helmert scored the first goal unassisted in the six minutes in after a shot by Helmert that went wide two minutes earlier.

Cindy Gonzalez scored her first of two goals in the 27th minute off an assist by Taylor Amlong and then scored unassisted in the 57th minute.

Helmert and Gonzalez had other opportunities to score as William Woods' top attackers. Helmert had seven shots, with four on goal, and Gonzalez had five shots, with three on goal.

Goalkeeper Belle Boschert still played all 90 minutes despite not having a single shot come her way.

William Woods will have to wait more than a week and then play its conference opener at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at home against Harris-Stowe State.
