Owls get one through to defeat Midland 1-0

The William Woods women had to scratch and claw in their last game against Ottawa, only for that contest to end in a tie after two overtime periods.

The Owls worked through another defensive game Wednesday against Midland but were able to score the lone goal near the end of the first half for a 1-0 win.

McKenzie Gourley scored in the 43rd minute, after stealing the ball, to give the Owls (2-1-1) the eventual win.

Goalkeeper Belle Boschert was able to turn away four shots by Midland to seal the victory.

Offensive numbers were just about even among the two teams as William Woods edged Midland in shots at 13-12, with 6-4 on goal. The Owls had as many corner kicks as Midland with two coming from each team.

Sydney Balducci was a threat for the Owls once again, this time registering four shots, with two on goal. Chloe Overkamp also had two shots on goal.

William Woods plays its next game at 5 p.m. today at Hastings.
