William Woods wins fifth straight in 2-1 game at Missouri Baptist

William Woods' recent winning streak is moving them up the American Midwest Conference standings before conference tournament next month.

The Owls have won five in a row after their 2-1 victory Saturday at Missouri Baptist, who was ahead of them in the standings at third going into the day, and now match the Spartans' 5-2 conference record to find themselves only trailing Columbia College and Harris-Stowe State with two more games to play before the tournament.

In the first half, William Woods' four attempts to score were unsuccessful but broke through in the 48th minute on a McKenzie Gourley goal off a Lexi Drbul assist. The Owls (9-4-1) seemed to have the scoring touch just five minutes later as Abby Prather-Turner extended the lead to 2-0.

Missouri Baptist (7-8) scored its only goal in the 73rd minute as Belle Boschert stopped the other two shots that came her way in 90 minutes.

William Woods stays on the road in the conference at 6 p.m. Tuesday to play the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at St. Mary's High School.
