Two late goals sink William Woods in 3-1 loss at Lyon

The William Woods men went into the 80-minute mark tied Tuesday at Lyon after scoring a game-tying goal about five minutes prior. The Owls went on to lose its fourth American Midwest Conference game 3-1 after allowing two goals eight minutes apart.

Neither team scored in the first half after combining for only four shots in the period. The second half saw 17 combined shots, with 15 of them happening near the William Woods net.

Lyon (8-4, 4-0 AMC) scored its first goal in the 53rd minute on what was the fifth shot for the Scotts. Goalkeeper Iker Gonzalez made his third save just seconds ago before Lyon's persistence finally paid off.

William Woods (2-9, 0-4 AMC) had one save up to the 75th minute but didn't matter as the second shot by Lubos Polacko made it through.

Lyon didn't wait long after the 80-minute mark to retake its lead as it scored in the 81st and 89th minutes. The Owls had no more shots to counter the Lyon attack after its lone goal.

Gonzalez made five saves on eight attempts, and Breck McGrail was the only other Owl with a shot.
