Owls score season-high seven goals at Lyon

In the previous seven games, William Woods scored five goals. In 90 minutes on Tuesday at Lyon College, the Owls scored seven goals on their way to a 7-3 win.

William Woods (6-4-1, 2-2 AMC) overwhelmed Lyon (3-7, 1-3 AMC) with its 31 shots and 18 shots on goal. Five Owls scored at least one goal while Lauren Helmert led the team with two goals.

Sydney Balducci is the Owl that struck first off an assist from Hannah Loethen with only 1:28 on the clock. Helmert needed not quite 20 minutes to score both of hers as she headed one off a free kick from Taylor Amlong in the sixth minute and then took another assist from Loethen to give William Woods a 3-0 lead.

Lyon scored its first goal before the end of the half but would then fall behind 6-1 after goals from Amlong, assisted by Mackenzie Boyle, in the 47th minute, Abby Wilson in the 53rd minute, and Lyon in the 55th minute. Lyon scored an own goal but had a sparkling performance from Sarah Evans, who scored the final two goals for Lyon and for her hat trick. Boyle added a goal on a penalty kick in the 85th minute between the two Evans second-half goals.

Belle Boschert made one save on two attempts in the first half and Michyla Handley made one save on three attempts.

William Woods is back at home at 11 a.m. Saturday to face Central Baptist.
