William Woods gets first AMC win

The game was on the line with every shot Saturday.

William Woods and Williams Baptist combined for 16 shots and 10 shots on goal - with the Owls holding the two-shot advantage and the Eagles having the two shots-on-goal advantage - but it was an Owl who broke through the wall in front of the net to give William Woods a 1-0 victory and its first American Midwest Conference win.

Hannah Loethen converted on her shot in the 80th minute off a McKenzie Gourley to give Williams Woods (5-4-1, 1-2 AMC) its first win in three games after losing back-to-back 1-0 games to start its conference schedule.

Goalkeeper Belle Boschert made her sixth save after the final attempt by Williams Baptist (3-5, 1-2 AMC) in the 86th minute to clinch the victory.

Sydney Balducci was the Owls' leading attacker with her three shots and two shots on goal.

William Woods plays its next game on the road at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lyon College.
