Owls tie then lose 3-2 in final minutes to Oakland City

William Woods looked like it was turning around its home game Wednesday against Oakland City.

The Owls tied the game at 2 in the 51st minute to give themselves a chance for a comeback after trailing 2-0 at one point but would allow the winning goal in the closing minutes of regulation to lose 3-2.

Oakland City (6-3-1) quickly took its 2-0 lead with goals in the 19th and 21st minutes, managing to score on a couple of the team's 13 shots in the first half.

William Woods (2-7) had a response about a minute after the second goal with a score by Michael Bhat after assists by Guillermo Fernandez and Sam Allen. It was only the second shot of the four William Woods shots in the first half.

Oakland City dominated in shots for the full 90 minutes as it rifled 21 while William Woods mustered only seven. The Owls' four shots on goal were doubled by Oakland City.

Despite the more aggressive attack of its opponent, William Woods held the deficit at one into halftime and for the beginning of the second half, thanks to five saves from Owls goalkeeper Iker Gonzalez, until Bhat become involved in another goal but via assist this time to Breck McGrail in the 51st minute.

Bhat made another shot on goal two minutes later but was stopped. That would be the final William Woods shot as Oakland City didn't relent down the stretch until the winning goal was scored in the 88th minute.

Seven Oakland City players had at least one shot on goal while three Owls recored at least one, led by Bhat's two.

William Woods will play on the road at 2 p.m. Saturday at Williams Baptist.
