William Woods volleyball sweeps Lincoln Christian

William Woods has been piling up the sweeps as the Owls buried their fourth straight opponent Lincoln Christian (25-9, 25-12, 25-15) on Tuesday.

The Owls (14-7) used extended runs in each frame to win convincingly at home.

The first set was tied at 8, but the Owls went on 10-0 run to lead 18-8 that was led by three Riley Alton kills. Lincoln Christian (2-16) had three slim leads early in the second set before tying it at 10. William Woods would compile its biggest run of the match, winning 12 consecutive points, that was led once again by three Alton kills to grab a two-set lead.

After Lincoln Christian tied the third set at 9, William Woods would go on a 5-0 run, thanks to two kills from Kassidy Phillips. The Owls went on another 5-0 run, led by two Alli Gueck service aces, to take a 21-12 lead.

Hannah Kuehl led William Woods with 11 kills followed by Alton with 10 kills. The Owls had 13 service aces, led by Emily Greif's four, and had 33 assists, led by Tess Schannuth's 21.

William Woods will stay in Fulton for its next match at 7 p.m. Oct. 13, but will be the road team against crosstown school Westminster. The Owls have won the previous 10 meetings, with their most recent loss being in 2001, and lead the all-time series 29-2.
