College Volleyball: William Woods sweeps Lyon after weeklong layoff

William Woods didn't have much rust Saturday when the Owls swept Lyon (25-18, 25-23, 25-21).

The Owls (13-7, 2-1 AMC) hadn't played in since their Sept. 25 sweep of Harris-Stowe State, but a balanced attack got them in the swing of things early.

William Woods began the first set with a 5-0 run due to three kills from three different attackers. Lyon (10-8, 0-2 AMC) would figth back early before a Kassidy Phillips kill and one of eight Owl blocks, this one from Lanie Lowry gave William Woods control of the set.

An 8-0 William Woods run gave the Owls a 14-5 lead after a slow start. Lyon was aided by some Owl attack errors then to make 21-17 and then 24-23 before Hannah Kuehl would end the set with a kill.

Lyon would take the first three points of the third set before William Woods would answer with three of its own from three different attackers. The Owls would fall behind 10-7 before a 4-0 run started by a Phillips kill gave William Woods the lead. Riley Alton would cap a 5-1 William Woods run to make it 14-11, and she would also have the third-to-last kill before Kuehl slapped the final two down to win the match.

Kuehl would lead with 11 kills, followed by Alton and Reanna Dodge with 8 and Phillips with 6.

The Owls will wait until Tuesday for a 6 p.m. home match with Lincoln Christian University.
