Owls' Smith shoots 6 under, holds lead in NAIA Men's Golf National Championships

SILVIS, Ill. - William Woods' Logan Smith shot a 6-under 65 today to tie a NAIA National Championships 36-hole record with a two-round score of 134 in the second round of the NAIA men's golf national championships at TPC Deere Run.

The William Woods men's golf team began this morning tied for 24th but now hold 11th place.

The record score was initially set in 1993 by North Florida's Steve Carter and then was tied in 2005 by California State-San Marcos' Kenny Adams.

Now three strokes ahead of second place after his 6-under-par day, Smith shot five pars and four birdies, including three consecutive, on the front nine. He then closed his day on the back nine by shooting four birdies, three pars and two bogeys.

Smith's teammate, Jakub Dymecki, moved into the top 30, making the cut to move forward into the individual competition. Dymecki moved up 22 spots in the standings for a five-way tie for 28th place after shooting an even par in round two.

Dymecki started his day with a bogey on the front nine but finished the stretch with six pars and two birdies. He recorded a birdie to start the back nine and then finished his day with two bogeys and six pars.

William Woods performers who missed the cut were Phillip Heller, Arron Patel and Maxime Faure. Heller shot 4-over par to finish the day with a 75, sinking seven pars, three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey on hole 10. Patel shot 10-over par to finish with an 81, sinking 11 pars, four bogeys and three double bogeys. Faure shot 12-over par to finish with an 83, sinking a birdie, eight pars, five bogeys and four double bogeys.

The Owls trail first-place Texas Wesleyan by 25 strokes heading into the third day today, with action starting at 9:09 a.m.
