College Baseball: Westminster tops Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The top of the Westminster lineup got into a groove Friday as the Blue Jays defeated the Greenville Panthers 10-7 in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Westminster scored the game's first six runs, getting an RBI single from Hayden Hirschvogel in the first, a two-run double from Derek Shikles in the second, a Bryce McKinnon RBI double in the sixth and a two-run single from Logan Thompson in the sixth.

Steven Diaz, the leadoff batter, had three singles and three runs scored. Shikles drove in three runs from the No. 2 spot, Payton Whitehead hit a triple and two singles while driving in two runs in the No. 3 spot and Thompson had two singles and two RBI from the cleanup spot.

Drew Boessen earned the win on the mound, limiting the Panthers to an unearned run and zero hits. He struck out six and walked two in seven innings.

Westminster and Greenville will play another doubleheader today. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
