Owls' Smith owns Day 1 lead at AMC Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU - William Woods junior Logan Smith holds the 36-hole lead following Monday's first two rounds of the American Midwest Conference Championships at Dalhousie Country Club.

Smith began the day with a 1-under 71 in his first round, then finished the day with a 2-over 74 in the second for a 1-over 145 total to top the leaderboard of 34 golfers.

With 18 holes remaining in today's third and final round, Smith holds a one-shot lead against Central Baptist's Colton Ryan and Missouri Baptist's Drew Wielgus. A total of eight golfers will begin the day within six shots of Smith.

Jakub Dymecki and Philipp Heller are in the top 10, as Dymecki is tied for seventh with a 7-over 151 and Heller is tied for 10th with a 9-over 153.

Dymecki shot a 74 in his first round and a 77 in the second, while Heller opened with an 81 but bounced back with an even-par 72 in the second round, the low score of the second round.

Pheemawat Winomrat is tied for 23rd with a 160, shooting an 83 and a 77 for the Owls, while Max Faure is tied for 29th with a 166, shooting an 85 and an 81.

Through two rounds, William Woods is third out of seven teams in the standings with a 33-over 609. Missouri Baptist holds the two-round lead with a 606, while Columbia College is second with a 608.
