Westminster's Diaz creates no fly zone in center winning Gold Glove

A Blue Jay's glove is shining gold after Westminster junior centerfielder Steven Diaz earned an American Baseball Coaches Association Rawlings Gold Glove award Wednesday.

Diaz is the first ever Blue Jay to be awarded a Gold Glove award, making him one of the top three defensive outfielders in Division III, as one is given out to every position on the diamond.

This past season was Diaz's first action, following the pandemic, but he locked down centerfield, not committing an error and contributing five outfield assists. He was the only Blue Jay starter to have a perfect fielding percentage and not commit an error.

From the plate, he hit .267 and led the team in home runs with five and walks with 21. He also ranked second in on base percentage at .381.

Diaz was one of four Blue Jays named to the SLIAC all-conference team earlier this year. He was selected to the third team.
