Three Owl women get in work at Amateur Championships

Three female golfers for William Woods have been getting some work this summer with the 91st Missouri Women's Amateur Championships.

Krystal Burgtorf, Jennah Schell and Victoria Hooker competed at the event at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg. It was hosted by the Missouri Golf Association.

Following three rounds, Burgtorf had the William Woods contingent's highest finish tying for 48th place. She had a 247 total score and a 78 on day two as her best single-day score.

Burgtorf had a rough Day 1 as she had 12 holes where she had at least a bogey, including a double-bogey and quadruple-bogey, and a birdie for a first-round score of 85. She was able to recover on Day 2 with seven holes of at least a bogey for her best score of 78. Burgtorf had 12 bogey holes again on day three, with a triple bogey on hole No. 1.

Finishing tied for 52nd with a score of 255, Schell's first round included two birdies but also 12 bogey holes - two of them double-bogeys - for her best round score of 82. She had 13 bogeys on Day 2, including the last seven of the back nine for a second-round score of 86. Schell posted a Day 3 score of 87, having at least a bogey on the first five holes of the front nine and 12 total while also sinking another birdie.

Victoria Hooker rounded out the Owls with a 280 score and a 55th place finish. Her best single-round score was 87 on Day 1 posting 10 bogeys before posting 10 more the next day. Six of those on Day 2 were double-bogey or worse, leading to a 100 score. Hooker wrapped up round three with a score of 93, having 13 bogey holes and six straight in the front nine.

Sarah Bell, of Jackson, took first place with her three-day score of 203, or
7-under-par, besting the second-place finisher - Michelle Butler, of Columbia - by two strokes. There was only one other golfer who finished under par.

All three Owl golfers were academic all-conference in 2020, with Burgtorf being named an all-conference honorable mention in 2019.
