College men's basketball: Lyon (Ark.) 63, William Woods 51

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The No. 8 seed Owls were unable to rally from a 15-point halftime deficit in ending their season with a loss to the No. 1 Scots in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Thursday night.

William Woods University - which was down 31-16 at the break - finished with a 7-8 record. Lyon College (11-4) will remain at home for a semifinal matchup against No. 4 seed Columbia College on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls found themselves down by as many as 24 points in the second half Thursday night, but tried to make a comeback. William Woods responded with a 28-10 run, pulling within 56-50 on senior forward Makenzie Fessler's basket in the paint with 1 minute, 41 seconds left in the game.

The Scots, though, made 7-of-10 free throws over the last :59 to clinch the victory.

Fessler finished with 13 points to guide the Owls, who shot just 33% (19-of-57) from the field. Sophomore guard Mike Robinson added 11 points.

Sophomore center Darius Yohe collected a game-high 13 rebounds for William Woods, which was edged on the boards 41-39.

Faris Verlasevic came off the bench to spark Lyon with a game-high 16 points. Chris Craig supplied 14 points as the Scots shot only 39% (21-of-54) as a team.
