College women's basketball: Lyon (Ark.) 58, William Woods 45

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The No. 8 seed Lady Owls' season came to a conclusion after a 13-point loss to the top-seeded and 21st-ranked Lady Scots in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Wednesday night.

William Woods University finished with a 5-11 record. Lyon College (11-1) will host either No. 4 seed Harris-Stowe State University or No. 5 Missouri Baptist University in the semifinals Friday night.

The Lady Owls trailed the Lady Scots 16-12 after one quarter Wednesday night and 32-25 at the break. Lyon then outscored William Woods 12-5 in the third quarter to build a 44-30 lead.

The Lady Scots were up by as many as 21 points over the final 10 minutes.

Freshman guard Natalie Thomas and junior guard Kiyanna Rodgers scored 10 points apiece to pace the Lady Owls, who shot just 33% (17-of-51) from the field.

Junior guard Amaya Keeling pulled down a team-high seven rebounds as William Woods was outrebounded by a decisive 45-25 margin. The Lady Owls were also outscored 28-14 in the paint.

Mari-Hanna Newsom countered with a game-high 15 points to guide four players in double figures for Lyon, which shot 40% (23-of-58) as a team. Jade Giron was next with 12 points, Paige Kelley chipped in with 11 and Katie Turner finished with 10.
