Missouri spring game set for March 20

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri football team announced the date of its spring game Friday, which will cap off a month of spring practices.

This year's spring camp begins Feb. 26, with the spring game to be held March 20. Like many college programs, Missouri's 2020 spring season did not culminate in a spring game because of the cornavirus pandemic. The program expects to allow 25 percent capacity, similar to home football games in the fall.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz will also be tasked with making his third defensive coaching hire during the offseason.

Cornerbacks coach David Gibbs, the last holdover from the Barry Odom staff, left to be co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach at UCF under Gus Malzahn, the program announced Thursday. Drinkwitz hired Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator after Ryan Walters left to take the same position at Illinois and hired Jethro Franklin as defensive line coach after Brick Haley was not retained.

The Knights hired Malzahn, formerly the head coach at Auburn and Arkansas State, after he and Auburn parted ways this offseason.

UCF's head coaching job was open because Tennessee, after firing Jeremy Pruitt for alleged recruiting violations, pulled UCF athletic director Danny White and head coach - and former Missouri offensive coordinator - Josh Heupel away from Orlando.
