College men's soccer: Lincoln (Ill.) 2, William Woods 1

LINCOLN, Ill. - The host Lynx delivered the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute to edge the Owls in the season opener for both teams Friday afternoon.

Lincoln College broke on top in the 32nd minute when Miguel De La Rosa scored of a shared assist by Tajay Small and Ivan Vlek. William Woods University then pulled even at 1-all on freshman forward Joao Quinonez's goal - assisted by senior defender Zachary Baliva - in the 43rd minute.

Nine minutes later, Isaac Noriega put the Lynx in front to stay when he scored off Brian Smith's assist.

Lincoln outshot the Owls by a decisive 15-2 margin, including 9-1 in shots on goal. The Lynx also edged William Woods 7-5 in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Iker Gonzalez posted seven saves for the Owls.

William Woods travels to Springfield to face Evangel University at 3 p.m. Thursday.
