William Woods baseball sweeps Williams Baptist

The William Woods Owls swept the Williams Baptist Eagles in Thursday's American Midwest Conference doubleheader, winning 9-1 in a seven-inning contest and 8-2 in a nine-inning game at Owls Field.

William Woods broke Game 1 open in the third inning by plating six runs, highlighted by Easton Wallace's double down the right-field line that resulted in two runs scoring.

Marcus Gonzalez singled three times, Isaiah Gibbs had a double, a single and two RBI, and Jake Flemming and Connor Poulson each got credit for two RBI.

Logan Bexten took the mound for William Woods (20-15, 13-11), limiting Williams Baptist to two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Twelve Eagles struck out in Game 2, 11 coming in the 7 innings Dylan Hansen was on the bump. Hansen allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk in the winning effort.

Gonzalez and Jack Niggemeier each had two hits for the Owls, with Niggemeier driving in a pair of runs.

William Woods and Williams Baptist (13-27, 8-18) will play another doubleheader at 2 p.m. today.
