William Woods' Westerlund named NAIA Player of the Week

William Woods senior Aaron Westerlund was named the NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping the Owls win three matches this past weekend to qualify for the NAIA Championships, the NAIA announced Wednesday.

Westerlund completed two singles victories in the American Midwest/Heart of America/Sooner Championship, winning 6-0, 6-1 against James Bamberger of the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy at No. 3 singles Friday and defeating Kaito Tanitsu of Missouri Valley 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles Saturday.

In Saturday's No. 2 singles match against John Brown's Cade Cox, Westerlund led 7-5, 2-0 when William Woods clinched the 4-0 victory.

William Woods won 5-0 against UHSP and 4-0 against Missouri Valley.

In No. 2 doubles play, Westerlund and freshman Robert Schorr defeated UHSP 6-0. The pair led John Brown 5-2 and Missouri Valley 5-4 before the team victories were declared.

William Woods will compete May 18-22 at the NAIA Championships in Mobile, Ala.
