William Woods softball sweeps UHSP in doubleheader

ST. LOUIS - William Woods completed a second straight doubleheader sweep Tuesday by defeating the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy 2-1 and 6-5 in eight innings in American Midwest Conference play.

William Woods scored both of its runs in the first game in the first inning, getting an RBI triple from Emma Taylor and a sacrifice fly from Mallory Feldewerth.

Taylor, Feldeweth and Devyn Burton each had two hits.

Alexis Hassler pitched a complete game, striking out eight and walking three while allowing a run on six hits.

Celeste Sermeno doubled in the eighth inning and two runs scored on an error on the play to give William Woods a 6-4 lead.

UHSP had the potential tying run get thrown out trying to score, ending the game.

Sermeno and Jaden Swift each had three hits for the Owls.

Kalee Wall pitched 7 innings to earn the win, allowing five runs (four earned) and 13 hits with two strikeouts.

Hassler allowed two hits and walked one while recording the final two outs.

William Woods (18-20, 10-8) will play Wednesday, May 5, in pool play of the AMC Championship.

Game time against Williams Baptist is 11 a.m. at Antimi Softball Complex in Columbia.
