Westminster senior catcher Derek Shikles was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball hitter of the week, the league announced Monday.

Shikles (New Bloomfield High School) was dominant in five games during the past week for the Blue Jays, batting 12-for-20 (.600) and collecting at least two hits in each game, scoring a total of 10 runs.

Westminster went 4-1 in those contests, beating Nebraska Wesleyan 14-3 and taking three out of four games against Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday and Sunday.

Of Shikles' 12 hits, five went for extra bases. He hit a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-1 win against Iowa Wesleyan, then added a three-run blast — his fourth of the season — in Sunday's 13-2 win against the Tigers.
