William Woods volleyball set for first NAIA Championships

For the first time in program history, the William Woods volleyball team will compete in the NAIA National Championships.

The Owls will be in Ottawa, Kan., on Saturday to take on the Ottawa Braves. The opening-round match will start at 1 p.m.

Ottawa is ranked 19th in the final NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

The Owls earned an automatic bid to the national championship tournament by being the American Midwest Conference regular season champions.

William Woods went 9-0 in conference play with an 11-2 overall record prior to going 1-1 in the AMC Tournament.

Missouri Baptist was originally the AMC champion before having to forfeit its regular-season win against William Woods.

Missouri Baptist still earned a spot in the NAIA Tournament by defeating Columbia College in the AMC Tournament title match.

After the 24 opening-round matches, pool play will be April 27-28 at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The top team in each pool will advance to the elimination bracket April 29. The semifinals will be played April 30 and the national champion match will be May 1.
