Missouri Baptist takes two from William Woods in softball

ST. LOUIS - The William Woods Owls dropped a pair of games Thursday at Missouri Baptist, falling 4-1 in Game 1 and 5-4 in Game 2.

The Spartans scored at least one run in each of the first three innings of the American Midwest Conference matchup.

Allison Pingel hit a two-run home run in the third inning for Missouri Baptist (11-7, 8-2 AMC).

William Woods scored in the fifth when Celeste Sermeno doubled to drive in Katie Gaus.

Alexis Hassler took the loss in Game 1, allowing four earned runs and seven hits with two strikeouts and five walks in six innings.

Missouri Baptist won in walk-off fashion in Game 2. Jordan Corby singled to right field with runners at second and third with no outs to break the tie and end it.

Emma Taylor had three hits to lead the Owls, driving in a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.

Ally Mahoney homered in the second inning as part of a two-hit game.

Sermeno added a pair of hits.

Kalee Wall pitched for the Owls, allowing four earned runs and nine hits. She struck out two and walked one.

William Woods (12-18, 5-7) will host Lyon College on Saturday at Backer Sports Complex. The doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
