William Woods' Talton wins shot put, discus at Lincoln Open

JEFFERSON CITY - The William Woods Owls won four track and field events Sunday in the Lincoln Open, which was hosted by Lincoln University and Jefferson City High School.

A total of six schools competed in the meet, which was postponed from Saturday due to rain. Team scores were not recorded.

Ananiah Talton had both first-place finishes for the William Woods women. She opened the meet with a win in the shot put, posting a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches. After that, Talton moved on to the discus, where she posted a winning throw of 136-4.

On the men's side, Landon Dunlap won the 1,500-meter run in his first competition since joining the Owls, posting a first-place time of 4:21.51.

Charlie Schattgen was the only runner in the men's 5,000-meter run, finishing with a winning time of 17:07.59.

As for second-place finishers, Naomi Kerkula took second in the women's 100-meter dash, posting a runner-up time of 13.21 seconds. Kerkula added a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.89 seconds.

Kylie Zamboni-Cutter took second in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 4 feet, 11.25 inches.

Jeannette Woehrle had a pair of third-place finishes for the Owls. She posted a throw of 125-4 in the discus and a toss of 37-11.25 in the shot put, posting a personal-best in the latter.

For the William Woods men, Daulton Melton placed third in the discus with a throw of 142-9.75. He also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39-3.

Easton Ambler took third in the men's 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 17.98 seconds.

The William Woods men's 4x400-meter relay of Amber, Dunlap, Schattgen and Jared Eliuk placed fourth with a time of 3:57.95. Eliuk also finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.14 seconds.

Aliczander Nikonowicz placed fourth in the men's javelin with a throw of 117-9 and also finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.24.

For the William Woods women, Natalie Thomas also placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 116-3.

William Woods will compete Friday in the UCM Mule Relays in Warrensburg.
