William Woods sweeps Stephens College in softball

It was a good start to a string of five straight conference doubleheaders for the William Woods softball team.

A five-run third inning led to a 7-0 win for William Woods in Game 1 and Mallory Feldewerth's three hits led the Owls to a 6-2 victory in Game 2 against the Stephens College Stars at Backer Sports Complex.

Feldewerth drove in the first run of Game 1 with a single to center field in the first inning of the American Midwest Conference contest.

Stephens College dropped to 7-11 overall, 4-6 in the AMC with the losses.

In the third, Mia Santos batted in a pair of runs with a double to left-center field.

Santos, Devyn Burton, Ally Mahoney and Celeste Sermeno each had a double. Santos and Sermeno each added a single to go 2-for-4.

Alexis Hassler allowed the William Woods fielders work, recording 10 outs on ground balls while allowing six hits and striking out three in seven innings in the pitcher's circle.

Hassler then pitched 6 innings to earn the win in Game 2, allowing two runs and seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Feldewerth hit two singles and a double while driving in two runs. Burton added two singles and two RBI for the Owls (10-14, 3-3 AMC), who will host Hannibal-LaGrange at 2 p.m. Friday in a conference doubleheader.
