Women's Soccer: Missouri Baptist 3, William Woods 2

The Missouri Baptist Spartans scored the deciding goal in the 84th minute Monday, defeating the William Woods Owls 3-2 in the American Midwest Conference Tournament semifinals at Firley Field.

Mara George put the Spartans ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 16th minute, but William Woods' Sydney Balducci answered with a goal in the 33rd minute, tying the score at 1 heading into halftime.

Cindy Gonzalez gave the Owls at 2-1 lead with a goal in the 51st minute, but Missouri Baptist evened the score at 2 with another goal by George less than 10 minutes later.

Jamie Theusch scored the go-ahead goal for Missouri Baptist (9-5).

William Woods outshot Missouri Baptist 27-8, with 15 of those shots on goals. Gonzalez, Balducci and Hannah Loethen each had three shots on goal for the Owls.

Abby Wilson and Balducci each recorded an assist, while Cevana Borgstedt made four saves in goal.

Missouri Baptist (9-5), the No. 3 seed, will play top-seeded Columbia College (14-2) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Columbia for the tournament championship.

William Woods ends its season with a 9-3 record.
