William Woods men's, women's golf teams sweep titles at CMU Invitational

BOONVILLE - It was a day full of first-place finishes for the William Woods men's and women's golf teams in the Central Methodist Invitational at Hail Ridge Golf Course.

The William Woods men posted a one-day score of 582 in the team standings, finishing 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Columbia College. Junior Logan Smith also won the individual title for the Owls in the 48-player field, shooting an even-par 142.

The William Woods women easily won their team title with a one-round total of 319, finishing 31 strokes ahead of Central Methodist. Sophomore Maria Zrodowska, who was named the American Midwest Conference women's golfer of the week Monday, won the individual title by one stroke, shooting a 1-over 72.

For Smith, this is his third individual title of the 2020-21 season, shooting a 71 in each round. He finished one stroke ahead of Central Methodist's Matias Baccola, whose second-round score of 2-under 69 was the low round of the day.

William Woods had three of the top four golfers in the men's individual standings. Junior Philipp Heller finished third with a 144, while senior Max Faure was fourth with a 146. Sophomore Jakub Dymecki also made the top 10, tying for ninth place with a 150.

Other golfers for the William Woods men include sophomore Pheemawat Winomrat, who tied for 15th place with a 156; freshman Grant Mach, who placed 21st with a 159; and freshman Aaron Patel, who tied for 22nd with a 160.

For the William Woods women, redshirt freshman Victoria Hooker came in third place out of 26 golfers, shooting a 79. Sophomore Paige Hawkins tied for seventh place with an 82 and sophomore Krystal Burgtorf rounded out the team score with an 86.

Other golfers for the Owls include sophomore Jennah Schell, who placed 15th with a 94, and freshman Maddison Fenner, who tied for 17th with a 96.

Both William Woods golf teams will return to action in the Quincy (Ill.) Invitational, which will take place next Monday and Tuesday at Quincy Country Club.
