Men's Track and Field: William Woods' Webert hits NAIA 'A' standard

FAYETTE - William Woods sophomore Quentin Webert reached an NAIA "A" national-qualifying standard Friday in the men's hammer throw at the Central Methodist Invitational.

Webert finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 177 feet, 7 inches. The NAIA "A" standard is 173-10.

Sophomore Daulton Melton placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 140-9.

William Woods also had two top-eight finishers Saturday in the shot put. Melton finished seventh with a throw of 40-2.25, while freshman Dylan Wright was eighth with a distance of 39-11.25.

Melton added a third top-eight finish, placing third in the discus with a throw of 138-5.

In other field events, junior Donovan McCarthy finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 20-4.25.

On the track, the Owls had a pair of top-eight finishers in the 400-meter hurdles. Sophomore Aliczander Nikonowicz, a New Bloomfield graduate, placed fourth with a time of 1:02.53. Junior Jonathan Rae took eighth with a time of 1:04.49.

William Woods was sixth in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of freshman Easton Ambler (a New Bloomfield graduate), freshman Jared Eliuk, Nikonowicz and Rae posted a time of 3:46.78.

There were no team scores recorded at the Invitational.

William Woods will compete Saturday in the Lincoln Open at Jefferson City.
