College men's golf: Owls golf team takes second at Evangel

William Woods' Doran finishes as runner-up

SPRINGFIELD - William Woods University sophomore Tom Doran took second place individually to direct the Owls golf team to a second-place finish as a team at the Evangel Spring Invitational on Tuesday.

Doran carded a 6-over par 150 (77-73) as William Woods compiled a 50-over 626 team total (316-310) at Rivercut Golf Course. Doran fell a stroke shy of individual champion James Morgan's 149 (78-71).

Morgan guided Kirkwood Community College to the team title with a 45-over 621 (323-298).

Junior Logan Smith ended up in a two-way tie for fourth place for the Owls with a 154 (76-78). Freshman Aaron Patel (75-80) - who led after Monday's opening round - and junior Philipp Heller (78-77) shared sixth place for William Woods with a pair of 155s.

Sophomore Jakub Dymecki (84-73) - who played as an individual for the Owls - tied with Westminster College senior Zane West-Derby (77-80) for eighth place with matching 157s. The Blue Jays finished sixth as a team with a 687 (338-349).

Also placing for Westminster were sophomore Aubrey Nelson, tied for 28th with a 173 (81-92); junior Kurt Matheny, tied for 30th with a 174 (90-84), and senior Andrew Burnett, 39th with a 183 (90-93).

William Woods plays March 23-24 in the Missouri Valley College Spring Invitational at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall.

Westminster competes March 30-31 in the William Woods Spring Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Course.
